SCMA Conference 2025
As an event of the Maritime and Port Authority’s Singapore Maritime Week 2025, the SCMA Conference will focus on the theme “Charting the Future of Maritime Arbitration in a Fast-Changing & Complex World – Geopolitics, Innovation & Sustainability”. Our flagship event aims to bring together industry professionals, business leaders and legal practitioners to deliberate on current maritime issues and debate on how maritime dispute resolution services will continue to evolve to meet the needs of the global maritime community.

SCMA Perspectives Seminar: Appeals from arbitration awards on points of law as a means of developing shipping jurisprudence – comparing the approaches in England and Singapore.
English law, like various other jurisdictions, gives parties a limited right of appeal from arbitration awards on points of law (see Arbitration Act 1996, s69).
This seminar will look at recent examples of how the right of appeal has developed maritime and shipping law in the UK. Against that background the speakers will also discuss whether such a right of appeal would have been a useful addition in Singaporean law.
